We rely on our equipment to take us to awesome places in the backcountry — maintaining and repairing this equipment is a critical skill to have. This all-day advanced course will cover the basics of at-home equipment maintenance, what to carry in your repair kit, and how to repair your gear while on a tour or extended trip.

If you’re interested in learning about how to properly maintain and repair backcountry touring equipment, this six-hour course is for you! We’ll cover the following topics:

  • What to carry in a basic repair kit

  • At-home maintenance – how to get your gear to last a long time

  • Skin repair and maintenance

  • When to wax your skis/skins for the weather

  • How to efficiently repair gear in the field

  • How to care for and repair avalanche safety equipment

All experience levels welcome, though we do recommend a working knowledge of touring equipment and some winter travel experience before taking this course.

Please note: All participants are required to carry a beacon, shovel, and probe to leave the base area and participate in a course. Equipment rentals are available, and we recommend booking those in advance. Courses do not include access to the mountain. Each participant in your group must reserve a day pass in addition to your course unless you have a Season Pass or you’re using part of a 4 Pack or 10 Pack.
