This welcoming, beginner-friendly, on-snow course is geared toward never-evers and folks who have only clicked into their bindings in the backcountry a handful of times. In this half-day lesson, you’ll learn the basics, such as:

  • How to attach your skins

  • How to run a beacon check

  • Backcountry travel basics

  • Transitioning from uphill to downhill

  • Backcountry etiquette and best practices

  • Any other questions you might have!

All of our lessons target a 6:1 student-to-instructor ratio to ensure you get personal attention and reduce COVID risks. If you would like your group to have an instructor to yourselves, please book a Private Lesson or Guided Day instead.

Whenever possible we match students with similar downhill ability, and we do our best to pair splitboarders with splitboard instructors and skiers with ski instructors.

Please note: All participants are required to carry a beacon, shovel, and probe to leave the base area and participate in a lesson. Equipment rentals are available, and we recommend booking those in advance. Lessons do not include access to the mountain. Each participant in your group must reserve a day pass in addition to your lesson unless you have a Season Pass or you’re using part of a 4 Pack or 10 Pack.
