Have you ever wondered how to ski a steep couloir or big mountain line? Or maybe you’re new to the steep backcountry riding world and in need of some pointers on how to take your backcountry touring and goals to the next level. This is the course for you! Come learn technical skills focused on ski mountaineering, tips and tricks from our experienced instructors, and get stoked for all those big spring-skiing objectives! This is our most advanced course and is intended for those who are comfortable with their equipment and have the ability to ride 38º+ slopes. This six-hour course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to ski mountaineering

  • Introduction to ski mountaineering gear

  • How to plan for bigger objectives

  • Reading the conditions and forecast necessary for steep backcountry objectives

  • Steep downhill technique

  • Steep uphill/bootpacking technique

  • Terrain and group-management tools for more consequential terrain

Please note: All participants are required to carry a beacon, shovel, and probe to leave the base area and participate in a course. Equipment rentals are available, and we recommend booking those in advance. Courses do not include access to the mountain. Each participant in your group must reserve a day pass in addition to your course unless you have a Season Pass or you’re using part of a 4 Pack or 10 Pack.
