One Part Ski Area, One Part Backcountry

Imagine a ski area with all the amenities you’re used to — like a lodge, backcountry rentals and lessons, and ski patrol… but no chairlifts. That’s right: Bluebird Backcountry is an entirely human-powered ski area.

For years, we heard friends and family talk about the barriers that kept them from backcountry skiing or splitboarding. It’s expensive, it requires specialized gear and knowledge, and it’s dangerous without those things. We knew there had to be a better way.

Bluebird Backcountry is now open!

Our 2020 season is set up at Peak Ranch, between the towns of Kremmling and Steamboat Springs (roughly 2 – 2.5 hours from Denver). The centerpiece of the ranch is 10,115-foot Whiteley Peak, which will be open to the public for the first time. It’s a striking mountain with open meadows, aspens, wildlife, and incredible views.

You’ll be able to explore 400+ acres of avalanche-evaluated terrain unguided; another roughly 1,100 acres may be accessed with a guide hired through Bluebird Backcountry.

Tickets are super limited

Our season will run for just 15 days between February 15 and March 15. To ensure a great experience on the mountain, we’re capping visits at 300 per day.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Kickstarter! We raised more than $100,000 and pre-sold roughly half of the available tickets for our season.
