Building a Better
BEAR MOUNTAIN
We do things differently here.
Avalanche-managed backcountry, ski patrol, skin tracks instead of chairlifts, slopeside parking instead of crowded lots, great terrain without all the hype, a culture of education, and a grassroots scene chock full of campfires and live music.
Bluebird is located at Bear Mountain, on the Continental Divide between Steamboat Springs and Kremmling (click to open Google Maps).
Ski Patrol & Avy-Monitored
With on-site ski patrol and constant monitoring of terrain, Bluebird Backcountry allows everyone to enjoy backcountry skiing and snowboarding regardless of your avalanche education.
We know the backcountry can be intimidating, so we created a place where you can ski more & worry less.
Premier AIARE Course Provider
Bluebird Backcountry is the only ski area in the world designed for backcountry education. We are one of the nation’s leading AIARE providers, and our entire avalanche education team has been thoroughly trained and certified.
Beginner to Advanced Courses
We have courses for those brand new to backcountry skiing and splitboarding, all the way to advanced courses in ski mountaineering.
No Gear, No Problem
We know getting started in backcountry touring is intimidating, we have rentals on-site to make it easy. We have everything you need for a day skiing or splitboarding, including the mandatory snow safety gear (beacon, shovel & probe).
Bringing some soul back to skiing
We allow (and encourage) the fun parts of skiing in Colorado:
- Camping on site in our main parking lot
- Bring your dog to ski with you (on Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays)
- BYOB while we’re working our liquor license
- We don’t have lift lines = everyone is happier
