Women play an important role in the dynamics of the backcountry. In this women’s only clinic, you’ll learn tricks, tips, and knowledge that will empower you in the backcountry, as well as improve your efficiency and performance. This clinic also gives participants the opportunity to build camaraderie and ask backcountry-related questions in a female-only environment.
This clinic will be taught by Brittany Konsella, who you might know from 14erskiers.com. She has 10+ years of ski coaching experience and was the second female to ski all of Colorado’s 14ers.
While the design of this clinic is subject to skills participants wish to focus on, but objectives include:
- Set goals for backcountry skiing/riding and develop a program to achieve those goals
- Benefits and downfalls of women’s-specific equipment
- Address issues surrounding how women can have a dynamic role in backcountry decision-making
- Various tips for women in the backcountry such as how to stay hydrated and fed, efficiency techniques, layering tricks, how to take care of bodily needs, how and what to carry in your pack
A Backcountry 1 Lesson or equivalent skills are required. You should be familiar with your backcountry ski/snowboard equipment and comfortable skiing blue runs at the resort as well as skiing on ungroomed terrain. We’ll be sending out a survey for all participants to take beforehand to help cater the experience to the group.
All participants must have a day pass and carry snow safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe) to enter the backcountry.
*We welcome all female (cis and trans) and non-binary skiers! We’ll have more specialty courses throughout the season.
