This clinic will be taught by Brittany Konsella who is the second female to ski all of Colorado’s 14ers! The goal of this clinic is to enable and empower women with skills they need to make effective decisions in the backcountry. A step up from our original “Women in the Backcountry” offering, this clinic models decision-making and pre-trip planning processes to help build your skills to feel more confident in the backcountry. While building these automatic processes, we also delve into the realm of human factors, how they can impact our decisions, and how women can play a role in this, all in a female-only environment. In this clinic, we will:
Apply the AIARE decision-making guide
Use weather, mapping, and avalanche forecasts to gather information and use that data to plan a backcountry trip
Discuss the essentials of communication during a backcountry outing
A Backcountry 1 Lesson or equivalent skills are required. You should be familiar with your backcountry ski/snowboard equipment and comfortable skiing black runs at the resort and/or skiing on ungroomed terrain.
All participants must have a day pass and carry snow safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe) to enter the backcountry.
*We welcome all female (cis and trans) and non-binary skiers! We’ll have more specialty courses throughout the season.
